Your Nails Can Reveal Clues About Your Health

Your nails can sometimes show changes that are worth paying attention to. Here are 10 nail changes and what they may be associated with 👇

🔵 1. Blue Nails — Cyanosis
May indicate low oxygen levels. If sudden or accompanied by breathing difficulty, it needs prompt medical attention.

⚪️ 2. Pale Nails — Pallor
Can sometimes be associated with anemia or low red blood cell levels.

🟡 3. Yellow Nails — Yellowing
May occur with fungal nail infections, but persistent yellowing can have other causes too.

🥄 4. Spoon-Shaped Nails — Koilonychia
Can be associated with iron deficiency, among other causes.

🫀 5. Clubbing — Enlarged Nail Bed
Can be associated with certain lung, heart, or other systemic conditions and should be medically evaluated.

🦠 6. Thick or Brittle Nails
May occur with fungal infections, psoriasis, trauma, or other nail conditions.

Often become more noticeable with age, although other causes are possible.

⚪️ 8. White Spots — Leukonychia
Commonly caused by minor nail injury/trauma. They aren’t automatically a sign of zinc deficiency.

🖤 9. Dark Lines — Melanonychia
Can have harmless causes, but a new or changing dark streak, especially on one nail, deserves professional evaluation.

🩸 10. Splinter Hemorrhages
Tiny lines of bleeding under the nail can have several causes, including trauma; they aren’t automatically a sign of heart disease.
